RE: Crab Cakes

Don,
I don't know about dungeness crabs, but I am originally from Maryland around the Chesapeake Bay, and do make a very good blue crab cake.
When I have a crab cake, I don't want to taste a lot of other "stuff", particularly green peppers, just crab. Here is how I make them.
Maryland Crab Cakes
2 slices dry bread, pulled into small pieces with two forks
1 pound crab meat (I like lump or backfin)picked through to remove shells
2 egg whites beaten to soft peaks
2 tbsp. mayonaise
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
Old Bay Seasoning to taste
Beat the egg whites and gently fold in bread crumbs, then fold in mustard and mayonaise, then finally gently fold in crab meat. Season to taste with the Old Bay.
Form into cakes (1 pound makes between 6 and 8 cakes depending how big you want them).
Sautee in butter or broil in the broiler if you want to avoid the butter.
Anyway, that's how I make them. - Pat

RE: Slow Cooker Monkey Bread

Oops! Did I give away my age? I even remember when you got the oleo that was white and had a little pack of red stuff that you mixed in with your hands to make it yellow. Boy, now that goes way back. - Pat

RE: Slow Cooker Monkey Bread

Maybe this is what you are looking for. - Pat
Monkey Bread
4 cans biscuits
1C sugar
1C brown sugar
4 tbs. cinnamon
1 stick oleo
Cut biscuits into quarters. Mix sugar and cinnamon in plastic bag. Drop quarters into bag and coat well/ place in Dutch oven. Some people sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the quarters. Melt oleo in lid and pour over quarters. Bake 350 for 35 min. You can figure that each charcoal briquette is worth about 25 degrees. Baking is usually done with more heat from the top rather than the bottom. Coals should be placed under the oven and on the lid at a ratio of 1 to 3 having more on the tops.

RE: Slow Cooker Monkey Bread

There is a web site run by a woman whose 2008 New Year’s resolution was to use her crockpot everyday in 2008 post the recipes and pictures called A year of crockpotting. I have gotten some very good recipes from her. She is also gluten free, so that could be an added benefit for some. Hope this helps. - Pat

There is a Yahoo group George Foreman Grill. The owner of the group posts two recipes a day. It is unbelievable what you can make on "George". - Pat

RE: Looking for a sleeping bag for Darla (the Dachshund)

How about a quilted pillow sham that opens from one end? Seems like that would be about the right size.

RE: King Dome and HD

Will we be able to view television in non-HD format with an HD receiver and a non-HD dish even if it is broadcast in HD?
We want to upgrade our Tivo receiver to HD (which we take in the RV that has Kingdome) and upgrade our dish at home to HD. Don't want to invest in HD dish for the RV.
Thanks

RE: Alaska Caravan

We have just booked our third Fantasy Tour and are very pleased with the company. That being said, I agree with what others have said about going it alone or going with another couple or two. We went this summer with friends we met on a Fantasy tour and had a great time. Never felt the need or saw any advantage with being on an organized tour.

RE: Bayou Segnette Louisiana

Thanks a million. We want to go with friends for the Jazz Fest in April and our friends just got a new 39' fifth wheel. We were a little worried that they might not be able to fit into the spaces.

Could someone tell me if the sites at Bayou Segnette are large enough to accomodate a 39' fiver?
